Gourmet Evenings

Gourmet Evenings 2008

The Gourmet Evenings at The Chester Grosvenor and Spa are something of an institution.
An evening of conviviality and a chance to try an eclectic range of wines and champagnes chosen by our Sommelier. Each wine is then matched with and complemented by Simon Radley’s excellent cuisine.

Wines of the Pacific Northwest
Thursday 18th September 2008

We begin our exploration of these excellent wines in Oregon with a range of stunning whites, moving on to a very burgundian style Chardonnay (made by Veronique Drouhin, daughter of J Drouhin of Burgundy), before crossing to Vashon Island outside Seattle where Chris Camarda’s critically acclaimed Andrew Will Winery is based. We then cross the border to British Columbia for a joint venture with Gruaud-Larose of St Julien and Vincor–Oyosoos Larose, another Bordeaux style blend. We finish with Canadian gold, Jackson-Triggs Vidal Gold Icewine, legendary wine from one of the true pioneers of the Pacific Northwest.

Planeta Wines, Sicily
Thursday 9th October 2008

Once regarded merely as a producer of rustic wines, Sicily is emerging as the most exciting region in Italy. Planeta are at the forefront of the wave of acclaim that comes to the island. A family run winery, they have the honour of claiming Sicily’s first DOCG wine with their Cerasuelo di Vittorio. The wines have a simple elegance that elevates them to a higher level of quality, marrying traditional grape varieties with modern interlopers to create a harmony of old world wines with new world style. Outstanding wines from an underappreciated region of Italy.

Wines of Chile
Thursday 13th November 2008

Chilean wines have found favour for their easily accessible style and simple but elegant flavours. We explore three of the best producers of Chile coming from three distinct regions. Tabali are based in the cooler climes of the Limari Valley nestling at the top end of the country here coastal breezes moderate the ripening of the fruit. Altair are based in the Cachapoal Valley in the heart of the country at the foothills of the Andes and Casa Marin are based in the coastal region of the San Antonio Valley. Join Fergal Tynan MW from Boutinot as he takes us through
the wines of Chile.

Krug
Wednesday 3rd December 2008

There are few brands more closely associated with luxury than Krug. It has positioned itself thus through the Krug family’s commitment
to quality at every stage of production. The finest fruit, the finest barrels, and ultimately the patience to wait until the wine is ready, never releasing the wines before their time. We will be fortunate enough to taste a wide selection of wines including the Krug Collection 1981 en magnum, Vintage 95 from a Jeroboam, and the last addition to the Krug range, the Krug Rosé NV. Treat yourself to a night of pure indulgence and luxury as Simon Radley expertly pairs an exquisite menu to a stunning range of wines.

Perrier-Jouët Champagne
Thursday 22nd January 2009

Few Champagnes define an era, but Perrier-Jouët is one of them. At the turn of the 20th century, Europe entered “la Belle Epoque”, champagne was being consumed with passion in cafés, salons and grand hotels, and the leading brand was Perrier-Jouët. A specially enamelled bottle was created by Emile Gallé to celebrate the house’s fortunes. In 1964 the head of the house decided to create La Belle Epoque cuvée bottling it in a facsimile of the Gallé bottle. Join us to taste their fantastic range of champagne and try to create a bit of “la Belle Epoque” ourselves.
