A Celebration of National Tea Day

Welcome and thank you for visiting our first blog post (of many more to come)! We like to support local and collaborate with independent businesses. The Chester Grosvenor has been serving tea since 1882, so in celebration of National Tea Day we found it fitting to invite our tea supplier, Tea from the Manor, to share their story and the origins of our unique blend.

A blog by James & Charlotte Green of Tea from the Manor

Here at Tea from the Manor we drink tea all day, every day. English Breakfast in the morning, Camomile in the evening and all varieties in between. However, with National Tea Day fast approaching it gives everyone the excuse to drink tea and celebrate! Wherever you are in the world on 21st April, enjoy a cup of tea and rejoice in this fine British tradition.

When The Chester Grosvenor reached the grand age of 150 back in 2015, Tea from the Manor was asked to blend a new tea to commemorate the celebration. As The Chester Grosvenor stands as one of the country’s most elegant hotels, this called for a classic blend with a unique twist to suit the wonderful charm of this fine institution. James and his team created ‘Grosvenor Grey’ - a unique blend of Earl Grey. This black tea is an elegant blend of the finest rich black tea leaves, scented with a delicate citrus bergamot twist. The Earl Grey is coupled with dainty blue cornflower buds for a sophisticated, floral note. Now famous among locals, this delicious cup adds to The Chester Grosvenor’s spectacular afternoon tea offering with their tasty selection of freshly baked scones, cakes and pastries.

James Green is the creator of Tea from the Manor but began as a Military man and spent many years on active service in Northern Ireland, Hong Kong and Cyprus, in the Royal Horse Artillery.

Tea is central to a life of soldiering in both good times and times of conflict. This interest in tea stayed with James in “CivvyStreet”and became a passion that sparked the founding of Tea from the Manor.

Today, Tea from the Manor brings the finest full leaf teas from the best tea gardens around the world to delight the palates of its customers. Our loose and bagged teas are of the finest grade and taken by those seeking a first class tea experience, and most importantly - passionate about tea!

The beginnings of Tea from the Manor’s journey with The Chester Grosvenor is just as humble. Tea from the Manor was in its infancy when James and his daughter decided to sell the few teas they had sourced at the Chester Racecourse Food Festival. As the day went on they had many customers, including a lovely gentleman and his family. They got to talking and the gentleman asked James to come and have a meeting at the hotel he was the General Manager for. James and his daughter were so excited as they only had a handful of clients so far. When the gentleman told James to come the five red star Grosvenor Hotel in Chester, he was stunned. Tea from the Manor and The Chester Grosvenor have worked closely ever since and as Tea from the Manor grew, so did our relationship.

With that said, indulging on National Tea Day goes without saying so be sure to experience The Chester Grosvenor’s delicious afternoon tea. This year voted as one of the finest afternoon teas in the country by the Visit England Awards for Excellence, you’re in for a real treat! We hear afternoon tea starts from £32 per person with the option to enhance your experience with a glass of Champagne.
