Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting the influencer duo, To Our Taste, for a memorable evening at Arkle in celebration of a milestone birthday. Their experience, from our carefully curated 7-course tasting menu to the impeccable wine pairings selected by our Head Sommelier, Boris Filip, highlights the exceptional culinary journey that awaits each of our guests. "As part of 30th birthday celebrations, we enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu at Arkle within The Chester Grosvenor. As a family party of six wanting to fully embrace the celebratory spirit, we all opted to go with the wine flight. We were served by Boris, Head Somm, who was utterly superb and was more than happy to chat on all things wine with us throughout the night. Nothing our enthusiasm, he invited us to tour the cellar gone midnight, which was extremely fun. Anyway, back to the wine we actually drank…after whetting our appetite with a glass of Gusborne before sitting, we were raring for more and first up was a Gewurztraminer which was like a mix between Riesling and Grüner Vetliner. Delicious and refreshing.
"Round two was a champagne from independents EPC, which was light and very quaffable and didn’t stick around with us lot for very long. For course three, a Pinot Noir from Oregon was up and this went down a storm. Not remotely watery, like sometimes we find a pinot noir to be, it was a real treat enjoyed immensely by all. The fourth course was a surprise to all as it was a Sauvignon Blanc. Usually we’d turn our nose up if being honest, but this was outrageously good. Juicy and palette cleansing. We then went back to red for a Pian delle Vigne for the main course, which being a Brunello di Montalcino was of course, excellent and rich.
"The penultimate offering was a totally rogue wild card that blew us all away; Wignac Cidre Rose. None of us being big cider drinkers we were dubious but my god this was unbelievable. Not heavy and sticky but crisp, bright and like nothing we’ve ever had. We asked for more! For the finale we chinned a Japanese Ice Wine, which was like nectar. Very jolly and thrilled to have thoroughly enjoyed every single wine (which trust me we did not expect!), we were giddy for more so finally ended with an a glass of port each. Absolutely roaring fun and bravo to Boris for a superb selection! Cheers!"
